Vision
A united front of leaders across disciplines and generations to secure a just and sustainable future — rooted in collective action, climate resilience, and radical change.
Mission
The Campus Sustainability Fund at UW Seattle believes campus is a living lab. We offer experiences to equip students with skills as connectors across silos, project leaders of climate solutions, narrative-changers that champion “justice-centered sustainability,” and decision-makers to lead the youth sustainability movement vital for our collective future.
Values
The CSF aims to build a counter narrative to the mainstream environmental movement and reclaim sustainability as a practice historically led by people of color. We are committed to working across disciplines, lived experiences, and siloes – we are stronger and better together.
Sustainability and environmental justice are inextricable. In the worldview of white supremacy and extractive economies, communities of color are seen as sacrifice zones -- they bear the greatest burden of the climate crisis, which will one day impact us all. The environmental justice movement was born in opposition to polluting industries attempting to enter communities of color and demonstrates the power we hold, as a collective, to demand a better future. One that does not compromise our wellbeing, divide our communities, or see certain people as less deserving of access to a healthy environment.
We must radically envision a future that centers the voices of those historically silenced, pursue justice for communities most affected, and advocate for Mother Earth and us all.
Prioritizing wellbeing is paramount for building resilience among ourselves, communities, and the movement. The CSF believes in paying a living wage and aims to cultivate community among our team (potentially delete or reword).
The CSF is proud of its history as a student-led organization and embraces a co-governance structure that prioritizes shared leadership. Each member is an expert in their issue area. Informed by an ethos of collaboration and collective growth, the CSF strives to cultivate a knowledge democracy that empowers students to build a sustainable future.
The CSF and the majority of our programming is funded by the Student Services and Activities Fee.
