The UW Resilience Lab and the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) are pleased to announce the fifth annual Resilience and Compassion Seed Grant cycle. These small grants support efforts to promote resilience, compassion and sustainability and foster connection and community at the UW. Seed grants support impactful activities, programming, projects and/or applied research that align with the following goals of the Resilience Lab and the CSF:

  • To cultivate kindness, compassion and gratitude toward each other and ourselves;
  • To foster connectedness, belonging and community;
  • To embrace common humanity and diversity within the human experience;
  • To provide opportunities to the UW community for project-based or applied learning;
  • To illuminate the connections between group or personal identities (cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, etc.) and the sustainability of the UW community and environment.
  • To educate and/or spark dialogue about environmental and societal problems that disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.

All members of the UW community – including students, staff and faculty – are eligible to apply; however, preference will be given to teams that include students.

Applications will be open April 1st and close May 1st.

For the application, you will need to submit the following information and materials:

  1. Contact information for primary and secondary project applicant.
  2. Project proposal (no more than 1000 words) including:
    • Brief description of your proposed project, including clearly delineated goals or aims.
    • Brief background describing the theoretical and/or empirical justification for your proposed project.
    • Brief description of how you will evaluate whether or not your project met its intended goals and impact.
    • The Resilience Lab and the CSF are interested in seeing how proposed projects are connected to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 SDGs may serve as inspiration for thinking about different aspects of intersectional sustainability that could be addressed. We ask you to articulate connections between your proposed project and 2 or more of the 17 goals.
  3. A detailed, line-item budget proposal for how the funds will be used. Please include a description of matching funds and/or any additional funds to support your project as applicable.
  4. (Optional) Letter of support from an appropriate unit lead (e.g., person holding chair, dean or VP-level roles) or letter from a faculty or staff adviser/mentor for student-led applications.
