UW undergoing Salmon-Safe Recertification

UW is currently undergoing Salmon-Safe recertification after first being certified in 2011.  Salmon-Safe is a regional eco-label that ensures a site (farm, vineyard, university campus, landscape, etc.)  has minimized its impact on local watersheds by increasing the quality and reducing the quantity of stormwater discharged.  Through a grant from the CSF, the Sustainable Stormwater program has catalyzed student efforts to become integrally involved with the recertification effort and is leading the process.  Learn more about the Salmon Safe program from this video and get involved with the S

Keeping it real

Dani Gilmour describes herself as a former junk food fiend, something one wouldn’t expect from the coordinator of Husky Real Food Challenge (HRFC).

Since she was a child growing up in Cheney, Wash., she has known she wanted to address climate change, but food production had never occurred to her as something that has a significant impact on the environment. Gilmour attributes her newfound interest in food to the food-related classes at the UW and opportunities to volunteer at the UW Farm during her first year on campus.
